Wimbledon Adopts Video Replay Technology in 2025.

Wimbledon court with replay technology

The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in implementing replay systems.

Video review systems will make its debut at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.

Players are granted the option to contest certain decisions made by the chair umpire, echoing the protocol already in place at both the US Open and the Australian Open.

This technology is slated for use on the main stadium and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.

This step follows just a season following the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which effectively ended the centuries-old role of line officials.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Players cannot to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the official to review other decisions, such as:

  • Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • If a shot made contact with an rival's racket or person on the way past.
  • Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a point.

Importantly, there is no cap on the number of challenges a player can initiate.

Practical Application

An illustrative case took place in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against his opponent.

Draper admitted it was a tough situation for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and determined Draper was guilty of interference, granting the rally to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

Video reviews are not new for major tournaments. It has been in use at the US Open for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have the system in place at every one of its tournaments.

Further Updates

A further innovation at Wimbledon 2025 involves the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses instances where fans have occasionally been unsure if a shot was in or out.

In other news, with exactly a century of days to go until the start of the Championships, organizers have also revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
